How do both parents stay in the loop on school email?
Get school email to both parents, then keep one shared place for what needs doing and what’s coming up. Many schools and teams only email whoever signed up first, and that parent ends up as the family’s inbox without ever agreeing to it.
Get the second parent added
Ask the school office, each teacher and each coach to add the second parent’s email. Many school apps also let each parent set up their own account. It’s a handful of emails at the start of the year, and it’s the only way you both get messages when they’re sent.
Skip forwarding everything to each other
If one of you forwards every school email to the other, you both get twice as much email and someone still has to sort it. The second parent also hears about things late, whenever the first one gets around to forwarding.
Share one list and one calendar
Neither of you needs every email. You both need to know what has to get done and what’s happening this week. Keep the action items on one shared list and the events on one calendar you both check. Say who’s handling each item, so the field trip form doesn’t get signed twice or not at all.
If you both get school email
When some school email goes to each of you, each of you forwards your own. Pick one place where all of it ends up.
How ParentDeck does this
A household can have up to four people: a partner, a co-parent or another family member. The parent who set up the household invites the others from Settings. Under Your household, enter their email under Invite another parent and choose Send. Each person signs in with their own email, and everyone sees the same items, sorted by kid. If school email also goes to the other parent’s inbox, they forward from their own email and add their address under Addresses you forward from. It all lands in the same household. Read the FAQ.
